Poppinga (pronounced Pop-ing-guh) will be returning for his ninth season of indoor football, all of which have been played in Sioux Falls. The Augustana alum has been an interception machine in his tenure with the Storm as he is the team's leader in career interceptions with 39 and ranks second in UIF history with 24.
Poppinga is coming off a season where he ranked second in the UIF in interceptions with 8 and recorded 43.5 tackles. Poppinga was instrumental in the Storm setting numerous team defensive records in 2007 including least points allowed (366) and least passing yards allowed (1,952). Poppinga has started 33 of the Storms record 38 consecutive victories.
The First Team 2005 All-UIF Safety led the league with 10 interceptions which also set a new Storm single season record. Three of those record interceptions in 2005 were ran back for TD's.
